College of The Albemarle (COA) is excited to partner with The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) to host a photography contest and exhibition, “Snapshot: Climate” which explores climate impacts across the Southern United States, opening March 13th and closing April 17th of 2024 at COA’s Dare campus gallery.
COA invites you to participate in an open call for inclusion in this Spring 2024 exhibition focusing on climate change!
To qualify, an entry must either be a photograph of Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Pasquotank, and Perquimans counties AND/OR must be taken by a photographer who is a resident of one of these counties (in which case it may represent climate change elsewhere).
The exhibition will have three categories for submissions:
1.COA students
2.General Public
3.High and Middle School Students
One winner in each category will receive $175, have their work printed, matted, framed, and displayed in a gallery opening at COA, and be featured on the Southern Cultures website. Their framed work will also be part of the Southern Cultures traveling exhibit.
Two runners-up in each category will be featured on the Southern Cultures website and will have their work printed, matted, framed, and displayed in a gallery opening at COA.
Teachers and Art Partners, we hope that you will utilize the lesson plans that have been developed to introduce this project to your students / community members. All lesson plans can be found here: https://www.southerncultures.org/article/snapshot-climate-lesson-plans/
Submissions are Due December 10th, 2023.
Submittors are required to also submit a 250-400 word artist statement about the photos and discuss what story the photograph(s) tell about climate change in your community.
