• Letters From Home performance at The Pioneer Theater- Saturday, November 7

The community is invited to take a trip down memory lane and experience Letters From Home, a heartfelt, powerful evening of song, dance, and storytelling, at The Pioneer Theater in Manteo on Saturday, November 7 at 7:00pm. Letters From Home is a patriotic tribute featuring timeless music and dance from the 1940s through today with a mission to honor Veterans and unite people through music. The performance creates a meaningful experience for all ages with vintage flair, improv comedy, a dash of audience interaction, and a sentiment of pure positivity. This performance is free and open to the public, but tickets must be reserved in advance online here. All seating is first come, first served. Doors will open at 6:30pm.

• ​Annual Dare County Veterans Celebration Luncheon- Tuesday, November 10

The ​Annual Veterans Celebration Luncheon will be held at 12pm on Tuesday, November 10 at the Virginia Tillett Community Center, located at 950 Marshall C. Collins Drive in Manteo. RSVPs are required. Please RSVP to the luncheon by calling 252 475 9270. There will be a program and visual presentation highlighting our service members. Entertainment will be provided. ​​

• Veterans Writing Workshop- Saturday, November 14 and Sunday, November 15

The 14th Annual Outer Banks Veterans Writing Workshop will be held in-person at the Coastal Studies Institute, ECU Outer Banks Campus in Wanchese from 9:30am to 3:30pm on Saturday, November 14 and Sunday, November 15. Participants will learn about the hallmarks of creative writing from writer, editor, and Veteran Dario DiBattista. Beginner and experienced writers are invited to participate in this special workshop that is free for Veterans, active-duty military and their extended family members. For more information about the workshop or to register, please click here or call Dare Arts at 252 473 5558.​​​

• Operation Green Light- November 4-11, 2026

Operation Green Light is a National Association of Counties initiative that encourages residents and businesses to show their support to local veterans by shining green lights throughout their communities to let local veterans know they are seen, appreciated and supported. From November 4, 2026 through November 11, 2026, an array of Dare County government buildings, municipal facilities and small businesses will be illuminated with green lights in honor of our local veterans.

• Manteo Veterans Day Ceremony

The Veterans Day Ceremony in Downtown Manteo will take place on Wednesday, November 11 at 9:00am at the Dare County Veterans Memorial, located at 300 Queen Elizabeth Avenue, Manteo.

• Southern Shores Veterans Day Ceremony

The Veterans Day Ceremony and wreath laying in Southern Shores will take place on Wednesday, November 11 at 11:00am at the Pitts Center behind Southern Shores Town Hall (5375 N. Virginia Dare Trail, Southern Shores). The guest speaker is Speaker Lieutenant Colonel Larry Feast (US Army, retired).

 

• Nags Head Veterans Day Ceremony

The Veterans Day Remember & Honor Ceremony in Nags Head will take place on Wednesday, November 11 at 11:00am at Nags Head Town Hall, located at 5401 S. Croatan Highway, Nags Head.

• Kill Devil Hills Veterans Day Ceremony

The Veterans Day Ceremony in Kill Devil Hills will take place on Wednesday, November 11 at 12:30pm. The ceremony will be held at the Veterans Memorial on Veterans Drive in Kill Devil Hills. American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Knights of Columbus will be in attendance

• Cape Hatteras Veterans Ceremony

​Cape Hatteras Secondary School (CHSS) is hosting their annual Veterans Celebration on Friday, November 13 in Buxton. The day will begin at 9:00am in the CHSS cafeteria where Veterans will be served a free breakfast and will be able to visit and catch up. At 10:00am, the Veterans will be honored by students, faculty, and community members during a special program in the gymnasium. The program is open to all area Veterans and active-duty servicemen and women.

Dare County Veterans ID Card Info:

The Dare County Board of Commissioners created the Veterans Advisory Council in respectful recognition of the service and sacrifice of all Dare County Veterans. DCVAC’s signature program is the Dare County Veterans I.D. Card. If you are interested in receiving a Veterans I.D. Card, you will need your DD214 form showing an honorable discharge and a driver’s license with a Dare County address. Many local businesses support our Veterans and want to say ‘thank you’ for all you have done to protect and serve our nation and the I.D. Card enables you to receive discounts off goods and services at many local business locations. If you would like further information about how to obtain your I.D.
