The Legacy Project

The Legacy Project was designed to make art as therapy available for terminally ill individuals in our community; assist dying individuals in creating an original work of art that expresses who they are, that will serve as a lasting legacy for the family and loved ones after the death of the individual.

Grant funds from the North Carolina Arts Council were utilized to hire skilled, locally recognized artists who worked one-on-one with dying individuals on specific art projects intended to reflect the individual’s expression of themselves.

Dying people often have the need to express their experiences, relationships and sense of self in ways that are best captured through art. Creating and sharing this can aid their emotional and spiritual work as they journey towards acceptance of their death.  The art work created will also serve as a lasting legacy to the dying for their loved ones.
